GENRE Xplosion with Ernest Myers

GENRE Xplosion
Workshop by Ernest Myers
Sunday, Dec 6, 12 to 3pm (session 1 of 3: Dec 6, 13 and 20)

GENRE: a word some marketing genius made up so video stores would know which shelf got the movie with the horse on the cover and which shelf got the movie about Vampire Bouncers on Spring Break.

That guy and those shelves are long gone but genre remains and, it turns out, is eXtremely useful on an improv stage.

Say “Western” and the audience sees the hats, horses and the shoot out at noon.

Say “Noir” and the audience sees the rain, the dame and the detective who hasn’t slept since Truman was elected.

Say “Vampire Bouncers on Spring Break” and the audience knows that’s a totally real genre because we all said it with confidence and conviction.

Genre hands you the world, the tone, the stakes before the first initiation. In this 3-session workshop you’ll learn to spot the rules of any genre fast and commit to them to the eXtreme to create a dynamic and memorable show…

…about Vampire Bouncers on Spring Break.
